Is AI Going to Replace Your Website?
Short answer: no. Slightly longer answer: it depends on what your website is actually doing right now.
AI is changing how people search for information, how they find businesses, and what they expect when they get to your site. That is real and worth paying attention to.
But the businesses saying AI will make websites obsolete are either misreading what is happening or selling something.
What AI Is Actually Changing
Search behaviour is shifting. More people are using AI tools to get quick answers without clicking through to a website. If someone asks an AI assistant what a service costs or how a process works, they might get a usable answer without ever visiting your site.
This is a real change. But here is what it does not change: when someone is ready to actually hire someone, buy something, or make a decision that involves real money, they are still going to look you up. They are going to want to see who you are, what you have done, what other people say about you, and whether you seem like the kind of business worth trusting. An AI summary cannot do that. Your website can.
Where Weak Websites Are Losing Ground
If your website is basically a digital business card with your services listed and a contact form, AI is not replacing it. It already was not doing much for you to begin with.
The sites that are going to feel the pressure from AI-driven search are the ones that exist purely to answer generic questions. Thin content, no depth, no real reason to exist beyond filling space. If your site actually demonstrates expertise, builds trust, and gives people a reason to reach out, AI is not your problem.
What a Website Needs to Do Now
The bar is higher than it was five years ago, but the fundamentals have not changed. Your website needs to be fast, clear, and built for the person reading it. It needs to answer the questions your best clients are actually asking. It needs to show your credibility in a way that makes the decision to contact you feel obvious.
AI is raising the standard for what useful content looks like. That is actually good news if your site has real substance behind it. It is bad news if your site was built to check a box.
